Flowers From my Garden

My Bromeliad is blooming!
The arrangement has one orange rose surrounded by purple hollyhock's, a white gardenia and assorted herbs. I don't know the names of the two varieties of red flowers. I'm sure I can find them in one of my 'flower books'.
I love flowers, ya'll!

Wow, that Bromeliad looks nursery fresh! Mine usually end up looking like rejects from the plant hospital!

I look flowers too. Flowers and chocolate are good for the soul...

Hi Lainey,
OMG! Your bromeliad is absolutely gorgeous and I’m so jealous! I had a couple of them years ago and they bloomed faithfully…..then “root rot” got them and that was it.
What are you feeding it with? I use to give mine Orchid Food…

I’ve got some of those “red flower” things in my backyard right now but I haven’t got a clue what they are….I inherited the plant. If/when you find out, would you post the name?

Fantastic pictures!!

Hi Tx,

These are the first bromeliads I've had. They grow like weeds around my daughter's tree in Florida!

Ditto on the flowers and chocolate!

Hi Miss Litzi,

I threw a little Osmocote on the bromeliads a while back. I let them dry out between waterings then I pour the water in the center of the plant. I put them in the rain now and then. They seem to like where they are, up high and in the shade at all times.

I'm still researching those names.

Hi Lainey,
I’ve never heard of “Osmocote”…but if that’s what created those beautiful blooms on your bromeliads, it’s obviously good stuff. I use to pour water inside the “cups” and let it evaporate/seep in slowly. I had a bromeliad on the front porch years ago that became the temporary home for a tiny frog. Sometimes it’d crawl right to the edge of the leaf and take in the sun/fog.

I’ve got to go to the nursery this weekend, so I’ll take a look around and see if I can find out what the name of that plant is and let you know…
